Wayland Named Executive Director at Sunnyside

HARRISONBURG, VA – The president & CEO of Sunnyside Communities, Josh Lyons, has
announced the appointment of Nancy Wayland as executive director of Sunnyside
Retirement Community - Harrisonburg. Wayland has been serving as interim executive
director since January 2023.

An experienced senior living professional, Wayland has worked at Sunnyside since 2011.
During her tenure, she has served as interim executive director, marketing director and
director of corporate marketing and communications. Prior to joining Sunnyside, she was at
VaLiance Health, LLC, and Shenandoah Shared Hospital Services, Inc., where she managed
workforce development, human resources and communication functions for both entities.

“Nancy’s intimate knowledge of our organization, positive leadership style, respect and
compassion for others, as well as her authenticity, were just a few of the qualities that made
her an outstanding choice for Sunnyside,” said Lyons.
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Wayland holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
She is also a certified Alzheimer’s facilitator.

Established in 1912, Sunnyside Communities is a not-for-profit Life Plan community with
three locations in Virginia: Sunnyside – Harrisonburg, King’s Grant – Martinsville, and
Summit Square – Waynesboro.
