HARRISONBURG — For all those people who say “I’ll only run if I’m being chased,” there is a perfect event for you and for a good cause.
Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley Inc. is sponsoring the fourth annual Zombie Run for Brains to be held Saturday at 11 a.m.
The event is held every year at Fear Forest, 6340 Oak Shade Road, Harrisonburg, making it the “perfect atmosphere for the run,” said Tamara Wagester, Brain Injury Connections’ executive director.
For the run, each participant will be given a flag football belt and will have to complete the 1.5mile course through the woods and cornfields at Fear Forest. The zombies will attempt to steal the flags as participants navigate the course. Those who make it to the end of the course with at least one flag are survivors. Participants who lose all their flags to the zombies are “infected” and must be disinfected.
For anyone who wants to run in the event, but doesn’t want zombies chasing them, they have the choice to not wear a flag football belt. Zombies won’t chase people without a belt.
Last year, 300 people came out for the event and the run is on track to exceed that this year, Wagester said. The goal is to raise $12,000 from the Zombie Run.
Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley supports people in the community who have sustained a brain injury. The nonprofit provides services and materials to help in their recovery.
“Our services are free to neighbors in the community,” Wagester said. Therefore, she said, it’s through events like the Zombie Run that allow the organization to serve the community.
Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley was founded in 2005 as a not-for-profit organization. Brain Injury Connections combines public and private resources to provide specialized services for persons affected by brain injury in the Shenandoah Valley.
Its service area includes Rockingham, Augusta, Bath, Highland and Rockbridge counties and the cities located within.
