DNR Online 12/20/18

HARRISONBURG — Rockingham County has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association for its excellence in financial reporting. The county earned its 36th Certificate of Achievement for Excellence.
The Board of Supervisors released to the public the Rockingham County Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30. The report contained audited financial statements, analysis and other financial information that is sued by financial organizations to access the County’s financial health. The economy remains strong due to the steady growth of James Madison University, Eastern Mennonite University and Bridgewater College, according to the report.
The region also experienced a growth in existing businesses over the past several years as well as a growth in private commercial development by Port Republic Road and Reservoir Street.
The county holds a financial rating from the United States’ three largest credit rating agencies “that reflect strong leadership of the Board of Supervisors and the County’s economic viability,” the report sates.
“The county is at a good financial stability and I think the positive from the report reflects that,” Stephen King, County Administrator, said.
