A regular meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Harrisonburg was held May 22 at Golden Corral. President Steve Alvis welcomed members and guest Adele Knott of the Shepherdstown, W.Va., Kiwanis Club. Knott is a past lieutenant governor.
President Alvis recognized Henry and Loretta Hawkins’ 46th anniversary on May 27. He also noted the good article in the Daily News-Record featuring the Kiwanis’ Law Person of the Year.
The Kiwanis auction at Bowman Auctions earned $1,959 from 96 donated items.
The Board of Directors voted to move ahead with the Adopt-a-Park Program pending answers to insurance questions.
The Capital District convention will be held Aug. 17-18 in Reston. Tickets are available for the August Ducky Derby at $5 per ticket. Proceeds will benefit pediatric hospitals in the National Capital area, of which
four are in Virginia.
It was announced the Kiwanis Aktion Club would hold their annual picnic at 4 p.m. June 19 at Heritage Park in Broadway. Members were invited and encouraged to bring a side dish.
Kenneth and Ann Shifflet were featured in the DN-R for their work in honor of people whose homes were taken to create the Shenandoah National Park and the Parkway.
Alvis introduced guest speaker and member, Lori Kizner, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Harrisonburg and Rockingham (BGCHR).
