United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County and The Community Foundation of HarrisonburgRockingham are pleased to announce the largest single gift to date to the Harrisonburg-Rockingham COVID-19 Community Response Fund.  Cargill will make a gift of $150,000 to support local response efforts, bringing the total raised through the fund to more than $470,000.

“Cargill has been a longtime supporter of human services in our community.  This gift will allow us to help so many people that don’t know where their next meals will come from or how they still remain in stable housing.  During this time of great need for so many, we are humbled to be able to reinvest this generous gift back into organizations that are serving people in crisis,” says Laura Toni-Holsinger, Executive Director of United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County

To date, funding has provided support to ensure that people in our community have access to safe shelter, food, mental health services and childcare for essential workers.  Programs receiving funding to date have included hygiene kits and meals for older adults, legal support to those facing housing insecurity, staffing expenses and food for childcare centers serving essential workers and cleaning supplies for emergency shelters, to name a few.

Communities like Harrisonburg and Dayton are at the heart of our food system,” said Andrew Friedman, general manager for Cargill’s Dayton, VA protein facility. “We are committed to doing the right thing and are investing in programs and partnerships to keep these communities strong. Our values are guiding our decisions.”
The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County and United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County announced a joint partnership to raise funds for the COVID-19 Harrisonburg Rockingham Community Response Fund in March 2020.
