Blue Ridge Christian School Gets $200K Gift

DAYTON — Friends and family of Blue Ridge Christian School parent, Tami Wyse, wanted to do something in her honor after she died in November 2017, and in her memory were able to give $200,000 to the school where Wyse’s children still attend.
Karen Shomo has been at Blue Ridge Christian School for five years and the last three as head of the school.
She said that two things were near and dear to Wyse’s heart — fellowship and educating students in “biblical truths.”
To honor those two parts of her heart, the gift will be used to construct a cafeteria commons space for students and the community at the upper school location in Dayton, as well as an outdoor courtyard area adjacent to the commons.
“We have been truly blessed,” Shomo said.
In addition, Blue Ridge Christian School is expecting $100,000 more in giving in the next 12 months, which will be used for a number of capital projects. Projects include renovating a science lab, creating more space for music education and improving athletic facilities.
There are 275 students in grades prekindergarten through 12. Currently grades pre-k through eighth are located at the school’s Bridgewater location, and ninth through 12th grade are housed at the school’s Dayton location. Starting next year, however, seventh and eighth grade will move to the Dayton location as well.
