Annual Fundraising Event Returns To Massanutten Resort This Saturday

McGAHEYSVILLE — Thousands of people will converge on the slopes at Massanutten Resort this weekend for what is, to some, the unofficial start to summer.
ValleyFest Beer and Wine Festival, an annual fundraiser for the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, goes Saturday from noon to 7 p. m. and features libations from about three dozen breweries, wineries and cideries.
Participating local beverage producers include Brothers Craft Brewing, Pale Fire Brewing Co., Restless Moons Brewing Co. and CrossKeys Vineyards.
Food and craft vendors will also be on deck, as well as live music on two stages throughout the day.
Now in its 19th year, ValleyFest has become a tradition to many people who live in or otherwise have ties to the area, said Frank Tamberrino, the chamber’s president and CEO.
“It’s just one of those [ events] that over time has developed so it’s got a following of people that return year after year,” he said.
Proceeds benefit chamber initiatives, including its leadership programs and scholarships.
“It’s more geared toward leadership, education and community,” Tamberrino said.
The event typically draws about 4,000 people each Memorial Day weekend.
The musical lineup this year features two performances by Americana band Yarn, which will kick off concerts at the base camp acoustic stage with Yarn plays the Dead from 1:15 to 2:25 p.m.
Continuing action at the acoustic stage will be Trail of the Lonesome from 3 to 4:15 p.m. followed by Gypsy Town from 5 to 6 p.m.
At the main stage, local solo musician Mike Davis will play from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.
Americana band The Judy Chops takes the stage from 2 to 3:15 p.m.
Yarn will play the main stage from 3:45 to 5 p.m.
Northern Virginia-based Pebble to Pearl will close out the main stage performances with a set from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Advanced tickets can be purchased through today for $25, which includes admission, a souvenir mug and tastings at all the alcoholic beverage vendors.
Full 12- ounce pours of beer can be purchased for $5, and wineries and cideries will have products available for purchase.
General admission tickets can be purchased for $35 at the door.
Military tickets can be purchased in person at the chamber office with a valid ID for $20.
Designated drivers and those younger than 21 can get in for $10, and children 10 and younger get in free. The event will be held rain or shine.
