Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative Awards Scholarships

ROCKINGHAM – Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) will award 10 high school seniors with $1,000 scholarships this spring.
 
The cooperative’s Operation Round Up Committee selected the following recipients:
 
  • Hannah Adams, Highland
  • Gina Alfred, Handley
  • Daniel Croyle, Millbrook
  • Lauren Gibson, Spotswood
  • Morgan Hamilton, Luray
  • Caroline Hayes, Eastern Mennonite
  • Caleb Jones, Ridgeview Christian
  • Haleigh Myrtle, Central
  • Sarah Watson, Stuarts Draft
  • Lindsay Zirkle, Stonewall Jackson
 
Operation Round Up is SVEC’s charitable-giving program, overseen by a committee of nine member-owners and one cooperative employee. It is voluntary to join and contribute to by rounding up your monthly bill to the nearest dollar.
 
This year, a record 88 scholarship applications were submitted. Since the cooperative first began offering scholarships to high school seniors in 1992, more than $110,000 has been awarded.
 
Chartered in 1936, SVEC serves approximately 97,000 meters in the counties of Augusta, Clarke, Frederick, Highland, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren and the city of Winchester in Virginia.
