HARRISONBURG — The Rockingham County Recreation Commission met Thursday, presenting updates on Rockingham Park at the Crossroads along with upcoming events.
The park remains on track for a grand opening on June 2, accompanied with bounce houses, food trucks and athletic activities.
The recently installed playground continues to be a big hit for children, becoming a popular spot at all times of the day, according to the commission. Its biggest draw is the zip line.
Work continues to speed through in preparation for the grand opening.
Dugouts have been placed inside the two baseball fields, and the entrance sign has been installed but still awaits the entrance logo. Fencing is being put up on the two softball fields that are expected to open in June 2020.
Three benches were added to the playground, giving visitors more seating options.
In other news, the 15th annual kids fish day will be April 27, featuring lunch provided by Bojangles.
In June, more than 60 people will travel to Niagara Falls and Toronto for a five- day travel experience.
Registration for after-school programs begins in May.
A coed flag football event will be April 27 at the Rockingham Park at the Crossroads. Committee members said flag football has been a popular activity, with registration continuing to fill up.
No items for action were presented during the meeting, and no one was present for public comment.
