Rockingham Educational Foundation, Inc. (REFI) is committed to getting books in the hands of our area’s children age 0 to 5. Their decision to be a Founding Sponsor of the local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, an initiative of The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County (TCFHR), came through January 26. Founding Sponsor, the highest funding support level, reaches the course of three years, donating $10,000 per year, for a total of $30,000. “When Revlan told me that REFI will be a Founding Sponsor of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library – my arms went straight up in the air and a huge smile spread across my face. The gratitude and feeling of overjoy that REFI will partner with TCFHR in this initiative is overwhelming. Simply put, THANK YOU ALL at REFI for helping us make this happen.” – Amanda Bomfim, Program Officer, The Community Foundation.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a monthly book-gifting program that mails FREE, age-appropriate books personalized with the child’s name directly to the child’s home. All children under the age of five in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County are eligible. The goal is to establish reading routines, create home libraries, and prepare children for future academic success. “REFI is excited to be a Founding Sponsor for the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. We believe literacy is the basic building block of education – it gives students access to knowledge and the ability to communicate with the world. Children having access to the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will positively impact early literacy in our community.” – Victoria Landis, Executive Director, Rockingham Educational Foundation, Inc.
Parents/guardians and caregivers of children under five may sign up to receive free monthly books starting March 1. Go to
