Everence teaches the ‘Science of Saving’ to Harrisonburg youths

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Saving money can be difficult, and parents and grandparents in the Valley helped teach their kids a little more about savings at Everence® Federal Credit Union’s Youth Savings Week. Kids from across the valley participated in fun science experiments, made homemade ice cream, interacted with the 104.3 KCY Country folks who came out to broadcast remotely, and most of all, learned more about saving money.
Science experiments included cleaning dirty coins and watching chemical reactions take place throughout the cleaning process. Kids also created ball and stick model molecules, using fruit, marshmallows, and toothpicks. These Youth Savings Week activities help teach kids responsible money habits. In addition to the fun activities, for each kid who deposited $15 or more into an Everence youth savings account during Youth Savings Week, Everence gave $5 into the account.
This annual event aims to help kids create a successful, life-long habit of saving money. Evelin Gonzalez, Everence Branch Manager, was very encouraged by the turnout.
“It was so great to see so many families from the community bring their kids to the events this week,” said Evelin. “Parents are setting an example about the importance of saving when they come to this type of event. It was important to us that the kids had a fun time, but we also wanted to make sure they were learning about saving money and how that can impact their future. I would like to thank everyone who came out to the event and appreciate their continued partnership with Everence!”
