HARRISONBURG, Va. (July 1, 2018) – Arts Council of the Valley’s Court Square Theater continues on Wednesday, August 1st with a stellar concert from bluegrass icon Lonesome River Band.

Lonesome River Band (LRB) has maintained a reputation as one of the most respected names in Bluegrass music since the release of their breakout album, Carrying The Tradition, in 1991. The band originally included founder Tim Austin, band leader Sammy Shelor, Dan Tyminski, and Ronnie Bowman, though following the release of LRB’s second project, Tyminski and Austin departed to pursue separate endeavors.

Over the years, Shelor and LRB brought on new artists to fill vacancies from those who withdrew to dedicate time to new groups, songwriting, or family, always seeking musicians who could contribute talents of their own. The band’s current lineup includes Sammy Shelor (banjo), Brandon Rickman (guitar), Mike Hartgrove (fiddle), Barry Reed (bass), and Jesse Smathers (mandolin).

Since its formation 35 years ago, LRB’s career has been filled with a multitude of recognitions, including International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards for Instrumental Recorded Event of the Year and Album of the Year and awards from SPBGMA for Bluegrass Band of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, and Song of the Year, among others. Whether performing on the famous stage of the Grand Ole Opry or headlining major concert events and festivals, LRB’s loyal fans continue to support one of the most loved and influential acts of our time.

Lonesome River Band will perform at Arts Council of the Valley’s Court Square Theater on Wednesday, August 1st. Doors open at 6:00 PM with the show beginning at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $15 advance and $18 at the door. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit valleyarts.org or call 540.433.9189.
