HARRISONBURG, Virginia – January 15, 2021 – Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce has announced that they are extending the closing date to February 5, 2021 for resume for the President and Chief Executive Officer job position.  
 
The Community – Harrisonburg-Rockingham County is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and is consistently one of the top communities in Virginia for population and job growth percentages. The economy is strong and broad based, driven by tourism, higher education, manufacturing, agriculture, small business, retail, services and construction. The spirit of local cooperation by the private sector and public sector for the betterment of the community is widely recognized not only locally but across the Commonwealth. The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1916, is one of the largest business associations along the I-81 corridor.

Job Description – With the retirement of the current President/CEO, the Chamber is looking for the next organization and community leader. The President/CEO will provide high profile leadership, vision, guidance and strategic direction for the programs and business operations of the Chamber. The President/CEO will facilitate and lead staff and board efforts to achieve the vision, mission and goals of the Chamber as approved by the Board of Directors. He/She will be a collaborative leader and will successfully manage and evaluate current Chamber programs while developing new programs and strategic initiatives to support the Chamber’s operations and growth. The President and CEO shall have such authority as necessary to administer the above responsibilities and the affairs of the organization within the standards and policies set by the Board of Directors. The President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce shall report his/her actions to the Board of Directors and Chairman of the organization.

Education/Experience Requirements
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in economic and community development, business, marketing, or related field, and a minimum of five years of proven and successful experience in a management or supervisory position. Chamber of Commerce and/or nonprofit experience preferred, but not required.

Applicants should have strong verbal and written communication skills, listening skills, excellent time management and organization skills, strong leadership ability, conflict resolution skills, negotiation skills, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook.
