DELEGATE LANDES RECEIVES “LIFETIME SERVICE AWARD” AND TWO “FREE ENTERPRISE AWARDS” FROM THE VIRGINIA

RICHMOND, VA – The Virginia Chamber of Commerce named Del. R. Steven Landes, R-Weyers Cave, Chairman of the House Education Committee and Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, a recipient of the “Lifetime Service Award, Career Focused K-12 Education Award, and the Fiscal Stewardship Award. The awards were presented to Del. Landes at the Chamber’s 2019 Annual Dinner held in Richmond last night for his work in the 2019 General Assembly session. The awards were issued to Del. Landes in recognition of his support for the principles and initiatives outlined in the Chamber’s long-term economic development plan, Blueprint Virginia 2025. Del. Landes was also the Chamber’s “2016 Legislator of the Year.”

            “The Virginia Chamber of Commerce congratulates Delegate Steve Landes on his retirement from the House of Delegates after 24 years of service to the constituents of the Shenandoah Valley. During his tenure, Steve worked tirelessly to kickstart economic development throughout the Commonwealth and spearheaded commonsense policy reforms that improved Virginia's workforce and education system, as evidenced by his leadership on the House Education Committee,” said Barry DuVal, President and CEO of the Virginia Chamber. “An advocate of the business community, Steve earned the Chamber's Legislator of the Year award in 2016 for his pro-business voting record and commitment to free enterprise. I am grateful for his years of public service and wish him well in his future plans.”
 
            “Delegate Landes’ work on behalf of the business and education communities has been unwavering during his 24 years of service in the General Assembly,” said Speaker Kirk Cox, R-Colonial Heights, who was named the Chamber’s 2019 House Legislator of the Year. “I am proud to join the Virginia Chamber in recognition of his work and dedication to the people of Virginia. While he will be missed in the General Assembly, I know his commitment to public service remains and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
