Bridgewater College Faculty to Present Piano Duo Concert Jan. 28

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Dr. Larry Taylor, associate professor of music, and Lacey Johnson, instructor of music and accompanist at Bridgewater College, will present a piano duo concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music on the college campus.
The concert features Taylor and Johnson in four-hand pieces, as well as performing on two Steinway grand pianos.
Taylor and Johnson will perform “Danse Macabre” by Camille Saint-Saëns, “Sonata in D” (K 381) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and two movements, “Blues” and “A La Turk,” from Points on Jazz by Dave Brubeck.
The duo will also present “Sonatina” by Ligeti György and "The Moldau" from Má Vlast by Bedřich Smetana.
A special feature of the recital will be the premiere performance on two pianos of “Classical Rondo” composed by Taylor.
Taylor teaches piano, organ, music theory and history. He holds a doctor of musical arts degree in organ from the University of Cincinnati (where he won the Strader Organ Competition), master of music degrees from Emory University and Notre Dame, and a bachelor of music degree from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa. As a composer, Taylor has collaborated frequently with poet Tom Noe to produce anthems, cantatas, the song cycle Marie Curie and the opera Eros and Psyche. Eros and Psyche had its premiere performance at Bridgewater College in 2011. In addition to solo recitals on piano and organ, Taylor has arranged and performed accompaniments on organ for classic silent films.
Johnson earned a bachelor of arts degree from Bridgewater College and a master of music degree from James Madison University. She has held various teaching and accompanying positions at Bridgewater College, Mary Baldwin University, Eastern Mennonite University, James Madison University, and other organizations in the community. Currently, Johnson works full time as an instructor/accompanist at Bridgewater College. In addition, she serves as the music director and pianist at Bridgewater Presbyterian Church.
The concert is free and open to the public.
